There’s no one who’s going to match you in every way,

And matching isn’t what matters,

It’s about whether you can get along despite your differences

As is my tradition to review the most underrated anime, here I proudly present to you yet another of my reviews! Kawai Complex was certainly one of the most hilarious anime that I have come across. It’s not only good because of the jokes, but also due to its wide range of personalities that are played by its characters. It’s also not an anime that you will take something away from (at least I did not, other than the above quote), but despite all those things it has got some really entertaining vibes, a chilled out atmosphere and great comedy. I’ll also add that there’s some drama, but all of that gets overshadowed by the comedy and romance genre.

The story is pretty non-existent, but an anime like this does not need one anyway. If anything it’s borderline episodic. No really, it’s not episodic technically, but one could mistake it for that if you remove a few scenes! Enough with the speculation though, let’s get on with facts. You have two main characters… Er, wait… Is that five main characters? Ahem. Well anyhow, there’s a quiet girl, a guy who likes the quiet girl, a heavy drinker who always gets cheated on, a wizard at makeup who dates guys like it’s a game, and an obligatory man of culture (you’ll know who I’m referring to once you start watching, lol).

Though Kawai Complex is a boarding house which has tenants who at one point were all strangers to each other, they all bond well like family (without getting all clingy). One character that I intentionally left out in the previous section is Sumiko-san. Although she does not get as much screen time as the other characters, she is one of the reasons all hell doesn’t break loose! Don’t get me wrong, you’ll probably not find the anime super heart-warming like Non non biyori, but it does have its moments.

I would say Kawai Complex can even be classified as a decently good romance anime. However, literally any other genre pales in comparison to its quality of comedy. The romance is a little silly at times, but what do you expect teen rom-com.

Would recommend! A light-hearted comedy about relationships.
